Fiscal Leadership
Reality is Not Negotiable
Welfare Reform
Tax Policy
I am running for the U.S. Senate because we have a generation of politicians in Washington who have aggregated more and more power to themselves and the federal government, while simultaneously refusing to deal with the problems which threaten the very foundations of our republic.
In my lifetime, the national debt has risen over 3000%. It now stands at over $15 trillion, or roughly $98,000 for every working American. To put that number in perspective, the average American worker would have to dedicate 100% of their income for nearly 2.5 years to pay their share of the national debt. Our country’s debt continues to increase at the rate of about $4 billion per day.
In my lifetime, Congress has spent every penny in the Social Security Trust Fund even as we face an explosion of liabilities as the Baby Boomers retire. Medicaid is now swamping state budgets and crowding out spending on essentials like education and infrastructure. In Utah, Medicaid spending now eats up 21.5% of General Fund spending. In 2003, it was 11.5%, an 87% increase in less than a decade.
Since Dan was born in 1974, the national debt has risen over 3000%. It now stands at over $15 trillion, or roughly $98,000 for every working American. Our country’s debt continues to increase at the rate of about $4 billion per day. It’s time for elected officials to just say no to new spending.
In my lifetime, Congress has spent every penny in the Social Security Trust Fund and lied to the American people. Now, we face an explosion of liabilities as the Baby Boomers retire. It’s time for leaders who will tell the truth.
Medicaid is swamping state budgets and crowding out spending on essentials like education and infrastructure. In Utah, Medicaid spending now eats up 21.5% of General Fund spending. When I graduated from BYU in 1998, it was 9% and left unchecked, it was on course to eat up 36% of our General Fund by 2020. The Medicaid reforms I sponsored and passed with the help of my colleagues made Utah the first state in the country to cap Medicaid spending. We need elected officials willing to tackle the welfare state.
It’s time for a new generation of elected officials who have the vision, skills, and track record to provide this nation with the fiscal leadership it needs and deserves. If I am elected, I will focus on three areas – Fiscal Leadership, Self-Reliance and Strong Moral Roots.
Whichever way you slice it, the evidence is damning. Our elected officials in Washington have weakened our great nation through their fiscal recklessness.
It’s time for a new generation of elected officials who have the vision, skills, and track record to provide this nation with the fiscal leadership it needs and deserves. It’s time to right the ship, and we simply cannot keep the same drunken sailors at the helm.
