Orrin Hatch, rivals wooing 4,000 delegates — one at a time

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, offered a catered lunch as he wooed them and 50 other delegates. One of his nine GOP opponents — Dan Liljenquist — earlier bought both breakfast at IHOP.
It’s an example of how candidates are busy courting delegates individually in what is the campaign equivalent of hand-to-hand combat. Gone temporarily is the earlier (and sure-to-come-later) carpet bombing of radio, TV, Internet and mail ads — and the advantages that big money can bring to that.
